Finalisation of the project “A new view of Lošinj archipelago” – FLAG “Vela Vrata”
We are ending the year 2022 with the finalisation of the project “A new view of the Lošinj archipelago” and we want to use this opportunity to inform you about the new contents of our partner Blue World Institute´s Lošinj Marine Education Centre!
As a result of the project activities, we supported the development of a high-quality and innovative educational content – an augmented reality module, an acoustic experience of underwater noise and new info-panels – which will continue to transfer the knowledge about the environment, research and the need to preserve nature, gathered through the long-term Blue World Institute´s work, and for the development of positive environmental awareness among a larger number of people even after the end of the project.
We supported the colleagues from the Blue World Institute by setting up 8 new educational info-panels for the interpretation of content on biodiversity, preservation and protection of the marine environment for the purpose of educating the general public at the Lošinj Marine Education Centre. These info-panels are accompanied by an educational mural that illustrates the connection of living creatures in the sea in order to teach the youngest visitors about the importance of preserving biodiversity and the natural balance among organisms in the sea.
One of the specific goals of the project was the creation of three educational points on the island of Lošinj where there are QR codes that lead to an augmented reality module for a mobile application with educational materials about the natural heritage of the island of Lošinj. Scan the Island is a mobile application that allows users to be informed in a simple, fun and structured way about the importance of the Natura 2000 area, environmental protection, biodiversity, cultural, fishing and aquaculture features of the island. Also, users will receive more information about the importance of dolphins as key actors who maintain the health of the sea and the stability of the fish stock and mitigate the effects of climate change.
We invite you to visit the Lošinj Marine Education Centre in the new year 2023, learn about the latest information and results of our research, and in a conversation with the employees, find out more information about the Scan the Island application itself and where the educational points are located at the island of Lošinj!
The project “A new view of the Lošinj archipelago” is financed by the European Union from the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund within the framework of the FLAG Tender Measure 2.1. “Conservation of the environment and encouraging sustainable management of natural resources” of the local development strategy in fisheries of the “Vela vrata” FLAG.
